Salisbury University is now 4-0 in the Capital Men’s DII college conference after upending rivals 36-13 on Saturday.

It was a closer game than the score suggests, with the halftime score being 13-10.

But Salisbury co-captain Patrick Mullens said the key for his team was the kicking game.

“From the start, we tested their back three with the kick-and-chase, which caused them to kick a couple directly into touch, setting us up in their territory.”

That formula was good for a try and two penalties in the first half, and then in the second half a blocked kick produced another Salisbury score.

“After that we just rolled with the momentum, played solid defense and waited on them to make a mistake or penalty,” said Mullens. “Playing in their end set up a couple opportunities to score which we took advantage of.”

It’s likely these two teams will meet again in the conference final, so this is just the first act.
