Kentucky Does Enough in SCRC
In a battle of two of the top D1AA teams in NCR, Kentucky defeated Tennessee 37-23 in SCRC action.
It was a good showing for Kentucky, a team looking to repeat as NCR D1AA champions. But Head Coach Sam Enari would like to see more.
"Overall I'd give my team a B-; an A- in the first half mostly for the efficiency in coming away with points when we were inside the Tennessee 22."
The forward carried the day for the Wildcats as, said Enari, the backs were a little on their heels during the game.
But good defensive pressure helped Kentucky "and our work this week in urgency to poach saves us several times."
Gage Curry, who has been in very good form, and Mike Punzalan, who has also been solid, had to leave the game before halftime and John Dardis was replaced just after halftime. This shook up Kentucky a bit.
"Throughout this year we have had glimpses of our end-of-season form, but we hanve;t put together 80 minutes yet," Enari continued. "Honestly we have only put together 60 minutes once. Our biggest skill is that we know how to win and are not dependent on only a few players."
The deep three of John Hall, Joe Keough, and Matt Verdes, with Dom Rosson and Jayden Bailey off the bench, were very good against the Vols, and in the bench was key overall, with Abeldardo Reza and Brendan Lynn providing a huge impact when they were needed.
