St. Joseph’s defeated Rutgers 60-5 in MARC action to move to 3-0 in the MARC.
This remains a very young St. Joe’s team with nine sophomores in the gameday 23 and nine freshmen.
Fullback Jack Del Monte and center Tommy O’Connell each scored two tries while Matt Kelly and a large group of forwards—Larry Thiel, Max Fisher, Mike Silk, Brandon Bispo, and Nick Sapienza all touched down. Flyhalf Jeff George converted five.
Delaware joins St. Joe’s at 3-0 in the MARC North after the Blue Hens slammed Rowan. Those two, Delaware and St. Joe’s, seem to be in charge in the MARC North; they don’t meet up for another three weeks.
In the MARC South, favorites Virginia Tech were shocked in a tie 29-29. This result immediately puts James Madison into the conversion in the MARC South, and with 1-1 Maryland still to play Tech the key game may well be JMU vs West Chester next week.
