Jesuit Sacramento Handles Highlanders
Jesuit of Sacramento defeated Marin 69-14 over the weekend paced by some outstanding work from fullback Max Schumacher and forward Laiatu Latu.
Jesuit scored early thanks to a Schumacher penalty. The co-captain would not miss a kick all day.
It took some time to break down the Marin Highlanders, but the defensive pressure from Jesuit was eventually too much for Marin to handle. Prop Liam McLoughlin was the first recipient of the pressure when he was able to punch over a turnover try with the help of wing Vincent DiFore. More Jesuit pressure led to a poor quick that Laiatu Latu grabbed. Marin was offsides and Latu went quick on the penalty. He offloaded to outside center Davin Kelly who went over for the first of his three tries on the day. More pressure caused a poor Marin clearance that fell to center Hunter Donelson who ran straight and hard to score. The Jesuit backs were able to score of a well-designed set piece with Kelly the recipient.
Flanker Josh Bagwell put in a big tackle that caused yet another turnover. Flyhalf Jackson Marchant was able to just get over the line for another try. Schumacher got the next two tries by punishing a turnover and running hard on a set piece. His two conversions gave him a total tally of 27 points on the day.
Quick thinking by David Starnes got Jesuit another five pointer. He took a quick lineout that was grabbed by Jack Shea who dived over.
Marin was able to get some points on the board by pouncing on a loose ball to score. Replacement Tommy Pappas scored after a good counterattacking run. Marin charged down kick to score again. Kelly closed out the scoring with a try and a conversion.
Latu and Schumacher captained the team and were both named Players of the Game.
