The Bayou Hurricanes will face off with the Jesuit-New Orleans Blue Jays for the Louisiana state title this coming Saturday in Gretna, La.

These teams played on April 1, with the Hurricanes capping off a four-weekend, four-victory run with a 29-23 result.

Hurricanes over Jesuit, Louisiana Playoffs Set

The Hurricanes are mostly healthy, but will be without center James Williams, who received a red card during the state semis. That has forced a backline reshuffle. HOwever, with hooker Reese Guidry and wing/center Shane Wright back from injury, they also have some good news.

The Hurricanes have enjoyed some solid contributions from new players such as Kenny Ferriera and Gabriel Cardenas, who have stepped into key roles in the backline.

As an xperienced,, big, athletic team, they and can adjust to how the game flows. And they will need to as Jesuit wasn't far off in their last meeting.

Had Coach Adam Massey said the late-season loss to the Hurricanes was just what they needed.

"It revealed what we were doing sub-optimally," said Masey. "Two aspects of our game weren't firing the right way. We fixed those and the result showed against Brother Martin in the playoffs."

As evidence of their improvement, note that Jesuit beat Brother Martin 19-10 in the regular sason, and 34-5 in the semis.

"Bayou is going to see the us at our season's best this weekend. We are confident," said Massey.

The day will be a full day of rugby, with two showcases of youth rugby, an early game involving Jesuit's B team and St. Paul's or SHARC. Brother Martin plays the NOLA Barbarians for 3rd, the state all-star team is named at 4pm, and then at 4:30 the final.
