Intense Rivals Meet for Tennessee State Title
The Tennessee Boys state final is set with Ravenwood to take on Harpeth this weekend.
Ravenwood defeated Germantown 42-17 in their semifinal, led by center Andrew Rappe and flyhalf Jesse Boone in the backs, and a solid tight five effort with prop Tanner Eatherly and hooker Jesse Phillips leading the way.
Harpeth, meanwhile, was very impressive in a defeat of defending state champs South Doyle. This victory was enough to put Harpeth into the Goff Rugby Report HS Club rankings, and drop South Doyle out. The Harpeth Harlequins dominated, winning 40-12.
In the previous meeting between Ravenwood and Harpeth, the Harlequins led 27-5 past midway of the second half, and seemed in control. But the Raptors exploded for four converted tries in the final 15 minutes to win 33-27.
Ravenwood Coach Richard Boone said his team learned from that game, but the team can be its own worst enemy at times. Harpeth, in its 3rd season of existence, learned something about closing out the game.
Boone said the final will be a good one.
"It will be a snot-knocker for sure," he said.
The teams are slated to kick off at 5:30pm local time at MTSU in Murfreesboro, Tenn. on Saturday.
