Mary Washington took a huge step forward this week in the Rugby East with a 31-26 defeat of Mount St. Mary's.

In the past few years UMW has sort of been chasing the Mount. But the tables have turned someone.

Coming off a humbling loss to Navy, Mary Washington had perhaps seen where they need to be.

Led by two tries and an assist from Aiden Hayward on the left wing, and with fullback ben Peters showing well and scoring a try, this was an improved performance. Peters, in fact, could have been credited with a second try but it ended up being called a penalty try instead.

The forwards, said Head Coach Andrew Spencer, set the platform.

"We were much improved from last week in set piece but we are still improving and need to be more consistent," said the coach.

"It's  good to get the W but we need to be sharper and close that game out better. Hats off to Mount, they never backed down and stormed back late."

Navy is solid top the Rugby East but this promises to be a very interesting Rugby East given how Army tested Navy, and how competitive SVU has been in their losses.

Southern Virginia were beaten29-12 by Penn State over the weekend. This is a good result for Penn State.
