Great Lakes Collegiate All-Star Program Seeks Player Nominations
The Great Lakes men's collegiate select program is seeking player nominations for the NCR All-Star Championships in Houston in January.
Dubbed the Thunderbirds, and working in conjunction with the Midwest RFU, the Great Lakes team will draw players from collegiate programs in Indiana, Michigan, Ohio, West Virginia, and Kentucky. Coaches are looking to populate a roster of 60 and they especially are interested in players who played for overlooked or struggling teams. There are always talented players in teams that have trouble filling numbers.
Heather Harley is the tour manager and head of operations, with the coaching staff including: John Harley (Marian University), Emil Walton (Louisville University and Legacy Rugby Academy in Michigan), Mike Geibel (Wheeling University), John Fox (Thomas More), and Sanders Slevatz (Western Michigan).
After player nominations and selections, the Great Lakes team will assemble in Houston by January 13 for the tournament the following weekend. The cost to play is $465 per player, which covers 2022 All-Star jersey and shorts to keep, hotel, food, ground transportation, and hoodie. Players have to secure their own transportation to and from Houston.
There are fundraising options available.
