Grand Valley State put down a bit of a marker this weekend, beating a very good Miami of Ohio side 61-0 Saturday to take control of the Great Lakes conference.

GVSU has been playing some challenging opponents, some in DI, in order to be better prepared for the playoffs, and boy did that pay dividends.

Player Spotlight: Calvin Schwandt is Always Moving

Aiden Reilly scored two tries while Reinhardt Stipp added two tries and reeled off a nicely-executed 50-22. Calvin Schwandt and Stipp both kicked well for points (all kicks went over but one was ruled out on a technicality so it was almost a perfect 63-0).

Flanker Carter Craft also scored two tries, lock Tyrese Robinson put in a hardworking shift, while the player of the game was Kai Norman. He was massive physical in the middle of the field and consistently broke the gainline. His hard carries resulted in a try, but more importantly set up scoring chances for others.

All of this sets up Grand Valley State to be Great Lakes champs. The Lakers are 3-0 with Calvin College and Saginaw Valley State left to play. The big question now is who will be second. Miami will look to bounce back at Central Michigan this coming week. That game will decide the conference runners-up.
