Colorado Springs certainly sent a message to every other HS team in Colorado with an emphatic 43-5 defeat of a very good Littleton team Friday night.

Here’s a list of the other results in Colorado from this weekend:

Colorado Springs 43-5 LIttleton

Fort Collins 24-26 Grand Junction

Ridgeview 17-24 Westside

St, Thomas Aquinas (Kansas City) 14-31 Regis Jesuit

Aurora 7-34 PAC

Broomfield 0-50 Monarch

Aspen 20-23 Highlands Ranch

Castle Rock 0-22 Central Terrors

St. Thomas Aquinas (Kansas City) 14-31 East HS

It was a good start for Grand Junction and Monarch in DII, and an opening win for PAC in DI, along with Colorado Springs.

For the Grizzlies, there’s still work to do, but Head Coach Otis McGregor was pretty pleased.

“I think the boys did alright, especially considering we had injuries to two starting players two nights before and we had to shift a bunch of guys around.”

Colorado Springs fielded four players in the pack who were completely new to rugby. But they showed well in what was a typical first game of the season in many respects.

“Our fitness was certainly lacking but they listened to what their coaches told them and we definitely had more positives than negatives,” said McGregor. “But we have a long way to go.”

Next up for Colorado Springs will be a midweek game against a tough Aurora side, and then a trip to Texas for the Dallas Jesuit Classic.

A weekend of intense, shortened games will give the Grizzlies the game time many of them need.
