The NCR Griffins teams found themselves on the winning side at the Algarve 7s in Portugal on Saturday.
The Griffins women did lose their opener, but that was to the Kazakhstan national team and it was close, 22-17.
But after that they blew past Ubuntu (a Portuguese team) 43-0 and St. Andrews 57-0.
For the men's team, it was a 3-0 day.
Playing the Open division, the NCR Griffins men beat Hitchin RFC (England) 61-0 CR Setúbal (Portugal) 52-5, and Campions 7s (Gibraltar) 40-0.
That put them atop Pool E and pits the men against Portuguese team Grupo Desportivo Direito, who took 2nd in Group F. That's a quarterfinal. The Griffins have the best points difference of any team in the Men's Open, but it remains to be seen whether their competition was as strong as that of other groups.
For the women, NCR Griffins will play Sporting Clube de Portugal in the quarterfinals. These two teams were the two best 2nd-place sides among the three pools.
