The Claremont Colleges beat Long Beach State 22-19 to claim the team's second consecutive victory in the DIAA Gold Coast conference.

CSULB has won the Gold Coast the last four years, but is in a little bit of a rebuilding phase, while Claremont, back in DI rugby after playing in NSCRO last season, is looking strong. Flanker Brian Rauzi was named player of the game for Claremont.

Rauzi scored a try and so did his back row mates Clayton To and Nick Urban, as Claremont took a 12-0 lead into halftime, and led 19-0 as late as 60 minutes into the match. Long Beach scored twice to mount a comeback, but a penalty kick from scrumhalf Robert Chui, who also had kicked two earlier conversions, kept Clareont two scores ahead. CSULB scored one more with about seven minutes to go, but couldn't get that last try to win it.

Grand Canyon beat San Diego 28-3 to stay in 1st in the Gold Coast and remain undefeated. Brent Williams, Dru Pelter, and Darient Picket scored tries, all converted by center Avery Longrie, and that staked the Antelopes to a 21-3 halftime lead.

The game lost some of its shape and precision in the second half and while Pelter added a try, converted by Longrie, and GCU won with a bonus point, it wasn't a perfect second half by any means.
