Gamebreakers DIAA Rugby Last Weekend
We few surprise results and a few big scorers highlight our Gamebreakers in DIAA rugby from this past week.
Isaia Kruse, Fresno State
In a massive win for the Bulldogs over Chico State, the Fresno State flyhalf was the consummate playmaker and also added a try in the effort.
Matt Grundlingh, Claremont Colleges
Claremont is an NSCRO team that plays in the DIAA Gold Coast Conference, so we’re stretching the definition of DIAA because we want to talk about Grundlingh. The Claremont Colleges fullback has been perfect so far this season with his goalkicking. In two victories so far Grundlingh has slotted 19 conversions and four penalty goals, and no misses.
Christian Bader, Stanford
In a surprise win over Sacramento State, the second row forward Bader shocked the Hornets with two early tries to put his side up 12-0 after 11 minutes.
Derrick Washington, Central Florida
The UCF tighthead prop helped set the platform in Central Florida’s attack and also scored a try as UCF beat Florida State 24-15.
Logan Deitner, Oregon
The Ducks fullback scored two tries and added two conversions for 14 points in a tight 19-15 defeat of Oregon State. Deitner’s second try made it 19-5, and they needed it as OSU scored two late tries to close the gap.
Kaden Loversky, UC Santa Cruz
Playing fullback for UCSC, Loversky scored 18 of his team’s 33 points (two tries and four conversions) in his side’s 33-8 win over Nevada.
Shemar Smith, Florida Atlantic
Smith plays center for FAU and he scored two of his team’s three tries in a 19-0 defeat of North Florida.
David Arredondo and Callum Lapper, CSULB
The Long Beach State fullback and center, respectively, both scored three tries in a shutout win over Azusa Pacific.
