Fordham Prep won Rugby NY's fall 7s in dramatic fashion.

Playing in the final match of the final tournament against Play Rugby USA, Prep scored at the death to tie the match, and kicked the conversion to win it. Co-captain Max De Vaulx was the try-scorer, and he also slotted the game, tournament, and season-winning conversion.

Rugby NY uses a cumulative points system to decide its champion, so you can win the final tournament and still lose the overall series.

But this was an impressive showing for Fordham Prep, who took two tournament wins and a 3rd place over the course of the season.

Meanwhile, Play Rugby took a 1st, a 2nd, and a 3rd over the fall. They tied with Pelham, who had the exact same record.

Leading the way for Fordham was Niall Cronin, who paced the team in tries. Co-captains Max De Vaulx and Matthew Clancy were key to keeping the squad on-task through the Rugby NY series.

"If you were able to watch any of our games you would notice that our restart success rate was about 90%.," said Fordham Prep 7s Head Coach Andrew Torres. "This was due to Max’s ability to kick high and short and Clancy’s ability to charge down and contest and win possession back on kickoffs."

Connor “Punisher” Sheehan, Ronan McStay, and Kristian Brocklebank were crucial on defense and won multiple turnovers at the breakdown.

With Fordham able to force turnovers in open play and also disrupt or steal opposing lineouts, it made for a long day for many opponents.

"All 24 of our boys played a role in winning this series from competing in practice and performing very well on Saturdays," said Torres. Max scored the game tying try and kicked the game winning 2 points in expired time to win the series against Play Rugby USA.
