Player Spotlight: Faison-Donahoe Credits Kutztown For Rise
Former Kutztown University All American Alex Faison-Donahoe credits his old college for spurring him to chase the pro rugby dream.
GRR caught up with Faison-Donahoe at a reseason scrimmage for the Austin Herd of Major League Rugby as they played the Austin Huns. We asked the former KU Golden Bears star about his experience at Kutztown.
"Kutztown was a great setup," he said. "Playing with Doc [Coach Gregg Jones] was kind of like playing with a legend ...a guy who knows plenty, who's going to put you in a good spot. And he’s always a great ally to have on your side."

Faison-Donahoe played for the Eastside Tsunami in Portland, Ore. before enrolling at Kutztown. He has grown to great success after that, playing for Old Blue and Schuylkill River, and now pushing for a place with the Herd. He credits many on his way and says having a mindset where you're always learning is what you need.
"He gets you ready," he said of Jones. "Kutztown is just a great program; I learned so much from playing there. Overall I've learned a lot. I’ve been really lucky to have a good group of coaches and senior leaders around me."
At the Herd, it's the same, said Faison-Donahoe, who added that if you're the best player on your team, then maybe you're on the wrong team.
"It’s been awesome; I’ve learned a bunch—Roalnd Suniula, Andrew Suniula … I’m just sponging right now."
