The only non-Canadian team in the Vancouver Sevens Invitational has won its bracket.

The USA-based Eagle Impact Rugby Academy defeated Ontario in the final held at BC Place during the Vancouver 7s SVNS event.

EIRA U18 Team to Final of Vancouver 7s Invitational

EIRA had tied Ontario 19-19 the day before.

In the final, EIRA defeated Ontario 17-12.

"The boys have been mentally preparing for what's to come," captain Masiu Aholelei told GRR before the game. "Ontario is good at being able to slow down the game and they are able to find the half-gaps."

So the key for EIRA was to keep the tempo going and get quick ball.

It was enough, and EIRA took the title.

For Aholelei, one of the keys was developing the team.

"We were bought-in even before the tour started," he told GRR. "We have been getting to know each one of the boys both off the field as well as off."

The squad of 12 players came from eight states and nine were in EIRA's Winter Camp. The other three attended USA's U18 camp.
