ECRC Sweeps Empire in Challenge Weekend
The top six teams in the ECRC faced off against the top six teams from the Empire Conference Saturday in Saratoga Springs, NY, and the ECRC came away with a 6-0 sweep.
The conference champs faced off with AIC taking on Binghamton, and the AIC Yellow Jackets won 110-0. Jihad Khabir scored four tries, while freshman Royaal Jones scored three, as did Matty Jones in a very one-sided result.
In the clash between the top two teams from the respective conferences, Boston College got tries from Duncan Wood, Nick Savage, Tom Whittam, and Danny Schatzman on to way to a 28-0 lead. Willy Hock, Austin Barr, and Noah Hopkins added tries to make it 47-12 at halftime. From then on, BC cruised 57-22 over Syracuse. Wood and Schatzman added tries. Wood kicked six conversions.
In the faceoff between the #3 teams, UMass beat Fordham 39-10. Between the #4 teams, NEC edged Stony Brook 27-22 in the closest game of the day. In the biggest surprise result of the day, Fairfield beat Colgate 56-5, and then in the meeting of the #6 teams, Northeastern beat Brockport 73-7. All six winners came from the ECRC.
