Devezin Hat-Trick Leads Etowah to Victory
Rugby Georgia concluded it’s 2nd week with a pair of competitive matches at the U19 level.
Etowah River Valley RFC took on East Cobb RFC on Friday evening at Roswell Park. Etowah opened the scoring as Loose-Head Kenny West muscled his way for the first try of the game and a 7-0 lead. East Cobb answered as No. 8 Carson Dahl, returning to action after extensive shoulder rehab, scored from 15 meters out with some slick moves to close the gap 7-5.
This is when flanker Raymone Devezin took over. Devezin used both size and speed to maneuver his way from 30 meters out to expand ERV’s lead to 12-5 prior to the break.
At the start of the 2nd half the Big Man scored is 2nd try of the match to extend the lead to 19-5. East Cobb roared back with tries from lock Vlad Sotnikov and Bryce Daniels to bring the Trojans within four, 19-15. Devezin closed the door on East Cobb’s comeback attempt with another highlight reel run, securing ERV’s first win of the young season. Final – ERV 24 – East Cobb 15
The much-anticipated match between the Phoenix RFC and the Roswell Rebels RFC was the physical match everyone expected. Playing in bitter cold temps, the host Phoenix opened the scoring on the initial kick-off, marching down the field in commanding fashion. Lock Jack LaVelle powered his way into the try zone for an early 7-0 Phoenix lead.
The second half remained scoreless until the closing minutes when Phoenix prop Ethan Lankester muscled his way inside the Roswell 5-meter line. Sebastian Kennett took the pass off the scrum to closed out the scoring. He was also 2 for 3 in conversions. Final Phoenix 19 – Roswell 0
