Day One of the Bermuda 7s is in the bag with US collegiate and collegiate-age teams in action.
Leading the way is the Bermuda U23s, who went 3-0, and the Saratoga U23s, made up of collegiate players from the Albany area (Siena, RPI, Albany), which went 3-0, allowing just two tries.
The has been a huge experience for the Bermuda team, which doesn't get a lot of high-level competition at this age group.
"What a wonderful opportunity for Bermuda to play at home against high-quality visiting teams," said Bermuda RFU Director of 7s Jonathan Cassidy, speaking to the Royal Gazette. "We are grateful for the opportunity to compete against them."
Straight-up college teams are there, too, with Harvard going 2-1, losing only to Saratoga, and Norwich going 2-1, losing only to Bermuda.
This tournament is run every spring and attracts strong collegiate 7s teams and top referees to a unique tournament experience. It is run by Stephen Siano who, coincidentally, maintains GoffRugbyReport's website through his company 4x3 LLC.
