Dan Payne Answers Questions in Live Chat
USA Rugby CEO Dan Payne held a live video Facebook chat Friday, answering questions from rugby people around the country and overseas.
Payne touched on a number of topics, and you can see the entire video here.
Among the statements Payne made:
1. He dismissed suggestions that USA Rugby and PRO Rugby are experiencing a rift, and instead said that he supported the idea, and that the 2016 season basically experienced some admittedly rough growing pains.
2. He said that USA Rugby's new strategic plan calls for 30,000 more USA Rugby members in the next three years.
3. He said that Rugby International Marketing's The Rugby Channel exceeded expectations for subscribers in 2016, and at the same time added that getting more rugby content on The Rugby Channel in front of the pay wall is a goal for 2017 and beyond.
4. USA Rugby has reached an agreement with United World Sports in which the winner of USA Rugby's men's Collegiate 7s Championships will get a spot at the CRC 7s invitational in June.
5. USA Rugby's main income stream is membership, and while World Rugby grants are important, too, the organization is limited to raising money through dues, donations, and small sponsorships for specific teams, while the major sponsorship money goes to RIM.
6. He is looking to get more USA-based test matches in November, rather than always taking the team on tour.
