D1A Gamebreakers as Winter Heats Up
D1A Gamebreakers as Winter Heats Up
The last two weeks featured over 20 games involving D1A teams and an expansion to the East Coast, which will happen more and more.
We take a look at some of the top performers over the last couple of weeks. Here goes:
Rand Santos, Cal
Santos orchestrated an impressive showing in Cal's win over UCLA and scored a dynamic try as well.
Evan Corbett, Mount St. Mary's
In a competitive loss to Lindenwood, Corbett's contribution was massive as his goalkicking kept the Mount within shouting distance before a couple of tries tied it up. Lindenwood would go on to win, but Corbett, who had shaken off a bout wiht the flu to play, turned every suggestion of a scoring chance into points.
Alex Raymond, UC Santa Cruz
Raymond was the center for UCSC in their shutout win over Sacramento State and led the defensive effort.
Coby Baker, Cal Poly
Baker was 8x8 Sports D1A Player of the Week last week after scoring 42 points for the Mustangs, and this past week he set up his teammates for tries and "only" scored 18—60 points in two games, not bad.
Sam McMIllan, UCLA
The UCLA hooker has been outstanding this New Year for the Bruins.
Duncan Krige, Lindenwood
This week's 8x8 Sports D1A Player of the Week put in a huge shift for the Lions and scored a key try as Lindenwood beat Mount St. Mary's.
Cade Crist, Cal
Crist led from the front in Cal's win over Arizona and scored two tries.
Lucas Green, UC Santa Barbara
Five tries in two weeks allowed Green to spark two wins for the Gauchos.
Sosaia Pongi, Saint Mary's
Pongi is central to the Saint Mary's attack and while he doesn't score a lot of tries, everyone around him does.
Kade Clark, Utah
A try-scorer in Utah's win over Utah Valley, Clark was also crucial in tight on defense and working the phases for the Utes.
Brad Kissinger, Grand Canyon
The GCU hooker had a huge game in a good win over Western Washington thing past weekend.
