The CRAA U19s did the job Wednesday, emerging from the RAN U19s Championships Day One 2-0.
However, it wasn't perfect, as the CRAA team struggled to put Mexico away in their second match.
The American team scored in the 8th minute with some hard runs from their big men and a couple of good offloads out of contact, leading to Arizona standout Ethan Heim going over. That made it 5-0.
Defensive pressure forced Mexico back and led to the next CRAA try. Mexico was penalized for not releasing and scrumhalf and captain Fatman Thorndyke, currently playing for Esher in England, tapped quickly and weaved through a very fractured Mexican defense.
Cal Edgerton converted and it was 12-0 after 12 minutes.
The CRAA team kept up the pace. Right after the restart they spun it wide off a lineout. Wing Jacob Gandy got the ball still deep in his half. They booted the ball down all the way to the Mexico tryline. Thorndyke got there first but couldn't snag the ball, and instead it was Gandy who dove on it and scored the third CRAA try.
