We all know that the college 7s spring is a bit in flux, but it's still the central competitive form for many teams, especially in the Northeast and Midwest.
This past weekend, things got moving in Maryland, as the Maryland Terps hosted the first of the Chesapeake Rugby Conference's extensive 7s season. NC State started the day with a 21-17 loss to Kutztown's 3rd side, but after that the Wolfpack rolled. Wins over Georgetown and Navy 3rds put NC State at 2-1 and in the semis, they got revenge over Kutztown III 29-5.
Salisbury did well to win Pool B thanks to a 19-17 squeaker past Virginia Tech. The Sharks then beat JMU 12-10 in the semi. NC State took the final in a tight one, 15-12.
Kuztown III took 3rd over JMU, Mount St. Mary's beat Virginia Tech 19-12 for 5th.
Of the 24 games in the tournament, 13 were decided by a converted try or less, which is a pretty astonishing stat.
