Charlotte Catholic 4-0 in Ruggerfest MSIRL Bracket
Charlotte Catholic finally got started in th Mid-South Independent Rugby League with four games in the Carolina Ruggerfest, and cam away with four victories.
The Cougars scored 140 points versus 25 in the four shortened games.
On Saturday, CCHS faced South Greenville and East Cobb, handing both teams shutouts. Catholic’s 39-0 morning win vs South Greenville was led by two tries each from Greg O’Shields and Reid Brandt, with three other Cougars touching down. O’Shields led the way again in the afternoon session with two tries versus East Cobb as Catholic rolled to a 45-0 victory.
Sunday morning saw Catholic’s toughest test of the weekend when they squared off with Wando, the defending state champions of South Carolina. Wando scored the first points on the weekend versus the Cougars slotting a penalty kick. From there Catholic adjusted to Wando’s consistent pressure and clean tackling ultimately getting the ball out to Reid Brandt, who touched down for three tries. Catholic added a fourth try by wing Caleb Shaw and Wando added for two of their own to cap the score at 24-15.
Catholic wrapped up their Ruggerfest efforts with a 32-10 win over Irmo. Jack Lowe and Matt Edel each put in two tries for the Cougars. Wind conditions made conversions very challenging on the day.
Charlotte Catholic continues on in March with NC Open league and MSIRL competition. They will be hosting Phoenix out of Georgia on Saturday, and then travel to North Raleigh the following week.
