Cavemen Rugby out of Utah came out of the Storer Classic with three wins out of three, holding opponents to just 21 points in the process.

Cavemen opened against Oceanside HS, which is a major part of the Carlsbad Thunder HS program. The Utah side scored three tries in the first half to take a 17-0 lead into the break of the shortened game.

Prop and captain Briggs Love added an insurance try, and they would need it as Oceanside stormed back to score two converted tries and make it close.

Cavemen held on to win 22-14.

Next up on Saturday were the SOC Raptors, a HS club team that still had some of the players they expect to suit up for them playing school rugby.

This was a tight one early on as the teams traded tries. Cavemen’s defense had to be strong as the Raptors threatened repeatedly. Cavemen 12-7 at halftime.

In the second half Cavemen held on against a well-coached Raptors side with co-captain and prop Vahafolau Esikia leading the way with his thunderous tackles. As the game wrapped up, No. 8 Easton Simmons ran an unders line and charged through before offloading to Love for the score to ice it 25-7.

On Sunday, Cavemen took on Tempe out of Arizona, winning comfortably 45-0. This ends up being a good opportunity for the Utah side to put some younger players onto the field.

Briggs Love would end the weekend with four tries while fullback Fisher Baldwin sparked several attacks with his counter-attacking. He scored twice, including a 95-meter coast-to-coast effort.

Wing Aiseah Hafoka was shifty and scored two tries, while Luke Vernon made some key kicks and ran the attack well at flyhalf.

It was an excellent start for Cavemen as they look to challenge for another state title.
