Canada defeated England in the WXV women's international competition Friday night in Toronto.

Late tries by DeLeaka Menin and Shoshanah Seumanutafa turned a 21-12 deficit into a 24-21 Canadian win.

This was certainly an upset and a massive victory for the Canadians, who came into the game ranked #3 in the world, well behind the #1-ranked England side.

(#2 New Zealand smoked #4 France so it's anyone's guess as to what the rankings look like this coming week.)

A record crowd of 18,621 filled BMO Field to watch the match, and the crowd had a massive impact.

“Hearing the crowd get behind us was genuinely a TSN turning point. We’re so fortunate to have matches like this at home and to have this support," said captain and lock Sophie de Goede. "We’ve just talked about the resilience that this team has shown over and over again whether it be as individuals in our training, going overseas to play, finding ways to connect with each other, in every facet off field we show resiliency and it’s got to translate on field and I think we showed that at the end, we showed real resiliency to get the win.”

England captain Megan Jones was gracious in defeat and enthusiastic about the crowd support, too.
