Santa Clara defeated UCSB 53-21 Saturday to move to 1-1 in the California Conference.
While San Diego State beat Sacramento State 62-12 to move to 1-0 (SD State Rambles Past Sac State), Santa Clara put themselves in excellent position to challenge for a playoff spot out of the conference.
Asad Braswell scored two tries for the Broncos, while Eric Peters, Matt Fitzgerald, Daniel Pusack, Ryan Chavkin, Charlie Haley, and Jack O'Hara all scored tries. Santa Clara also got a pealty try, while Fitzgerald kicked four conversions.
Saint Mary's is still in 1st in the conference, but won't be playing a conference game until Feb. 25. Next week there's just the one game, with Santa Clara hosting Cal Poly.
