Saint Mary's hasn't officially clinched the California Conference, but the Gaels' 94-7 win over a pretty good Cal Poly team reminds everyone that SMCC knows what they're doing.

The Gaels were led by flyhalf Michael McCarthy, who scored 29 points on 12 conversions and a try. Center Michael Wallace score three tries and prop Payton Telea scored two. But more than that, Saint Mary's continued to play defense like they were in a 0-0 tie, and continued to punish any and all mistakes.
Also winning on Saturday was San Diego State, defeated UC Santa Barbara 53-21. The Aztecs got four tries from wing Jacob Zinda and now sit 2-0. They are the only team mathematically catch Saint Mary's, and to do that SD State would need to beat the Gaels this coming Saturday in Moraga, Calif.
Santa Clara moved to 2-2 with a 59-27 win over Sac State. Sacramento State is 0-3, but has been getting some points on the board. Cal Poly and Saint Mary's remain on their schedule.
