BYU Opens Season in SoCal
BYU opens up their schedule Thursday with a two-game, three-day trip to Southern California.
The Cougars will face off with Cal Poly on Thursday, Jan 26, and San Diego State on Saturday, Jan. 28. SD State and Cal Poly met each other this past weekend, with San Diego State winning 13-8.

While BYU's game schedule had been known, the program itself had not officially released its fixtures. The reason, apparently, was that tey were waiting on a decision by the Varsity Cup teams whether there would be any sanction against BYU Men's Rugby for playing an ineligible player. In the end, the Varsity Cup members have apparently decided not to sanction BYU other than vacating the 2015 championship, according to reports, and BYU has now officially stated that the Cougars will not be in the Varsity Cup, and will pursue a spot in the DIA playoffs.
So, BYU is a DIA-only program for this season, at least.
After this week's games, BYU will visit Utah Valley University, the Glendale Raptors, Saint Mary's, University of Colorado, and the Air Force Academy to run them through February. The first BYU home game will be against Saint Mary's on March 11, followed by an away game at Central Washington, and then home games against Glendale, CWU, and Colorado State. The Cougars are hoping that strong performances in those games will be enough to earn them an at-large bid to the DIA playoffs.
It is highly likely that Brigham Young, which has two undergrads going on tour with the USA Men's National Team in February and another player on the USA 7s team radar, will do just fine.
