Brown, Siena to Liberty D1 Final
Brown, Siena to Liberty D1 Final
Siena will take on Brown in the Liberty NCR D1 final next week after both teams won semifinals this week.
Siena played rivals Iona for the second time this season, coming away with a 28-14 victory.
Early on this was most certainly a defensive battle, with the teams changing ends after only two penalty kicks, both from Siena, constituted all of the scoring. Up 6-0, the Saints started to build their lead with three tries (two converted) and another penalty to make it 28-0.
Iona stormed back with two converted tries, but it wasn't enough.
Meanwhile, Brown shut out AIC 40-0.
"The thing I was most pleased with was that we played with patience," said Brown head Coach David LaFlamme. "AIC was aggressive and they have some strong players, but our defense work this past week allowed us to pressure their attacking opportunities."
With Brown working the phases and seeing several players get touches and chances to amke an impact, AIC was forced to chase the game and they had to take some risks. Brown handled it well.
"We need to step it up next week when we play Siena," said LaFlamme, who will coach against an old playing adversary Jaco Visser. "I am excited to play an old friend."
