The Brother Martin Crusaders defeated St. Paul 29-14 in Louisiana Rugby league action, building on their solid start this season.
The St. Paul Wolves started quick and pressured the Brother Martin tryline. The Crusaders defense held, but eventually were penalized. St Paul tapped, dummied to their big runners, and sniped in to take a 7-0 lead three minutes in.
Both teams played stout defense for a period and then Brother Marin was able to work the ball wide where captain and fullback Andrew Wender found a gap and went over for the first Crusader try. That made it 7-5, with St. Paul holding the lead.
Brother Martin was able to keep play within the St. Paul 22. The pressure paid off and the Crusaders were awarded a penalty five meters from the tryline. The ball was fed to senior prop Mason Whiteside, who bulled over for the try. Jacob Davidson hit the conversion to give Brother Martin the lead at 12-7.
