Boys School Top 50 2024: Week 2
Week 2 and there hasn't been a lot of action, but we have seen some movement.
A couple of errors in our earlier rankings (we moved the wrong team) got fixed, and Mira Costa comes in after a couple of good results.
Boys HS Nationals Application Process Now Open
We waited for the Torrey Pines vs Cathedral Catholic game (#6 vs #12) and it did not disappoint; Torrey Pines won 15-13. Cathedral nudges up with that result, and it does seem like Torrey Pines, Cathedral, and Los Alamitos are all very close.
Games to watch coming up: Marvin Ridge vs South Meck (#35 vs #15), St. Augustine vs Cathedral (#34 vs #11), and Hough vs Sun Valley (#23 vs knocking on the door). Also knocking on the door is Cardinal Gibbons (who lost a preseason game to a strong Key Biscayne club over the weekend) but we might wait until the league games to really seem them make a move.
South Carolina kicks off its season with a series of jamborees where every team plays at the same venue. The story from there is the growth (or regrowth) of the league. James Island and Bishop England were slammed by the COVID shutdowns but now, after four years, are back. Spring Hill continues to rebuild and Lucy Beckham HS is a new team. They joins Wando, Oceanside, Cape Fear, and Greer among boys teams and this will help the top teams looking to be ranked because they have more solid competition.
Teas kicks off with their Ruggapalooza, and also Lake Travis playing Four Points, and we're interested in how the burgeoning Faith Family Academy team is developing.
