Boys HS Club Rugby Rankings Week 2

Charlotte vs Jacksonville from last year's Florida Invitational.

With games canceled in North Carolina and Woodlands also seeing their game called off, we don't have a lot of data to work with.

However, Florida is always data rich and after this past weekend's results we do shift them around a bit. Chiefly, Jacksonville bumps up to 28 from 41 after beating Naples. (Jacksonville, by the way, hosts a huge end-of-spring tournament, see the graphic on your right).

Also moving up is Northern Californian team Mother Lode, which joins the Top 50 at #13 after beating Jesuit  of Sacramento. Now, it's early days, and it's very possible that result was as much Jesuit struggling due to COVID and injuries (you've got to keep COVID in mind all the time). So consider this in how we think—if Jesuit rebounds and starts winning games, and Mother Lode keeps doing well, then Mother Lode stays high and Jesuit moves up in the single-school team rankings.

But if Jesuit rebounds a little and Mother Lode can't back up those wins, then Mother Lode moves down, and Jesuit stays below #15 and possibly lower. The good thing is there are teams waiting to answer those sorts of questions. Granite Bay (who we move into the Top 50 after reports that their numbers are strong this winter) and Danville and SFGG all could challenge Mother Lode, and then it might be a race to the top among those Northern California teams.

There will also, by the way, be a Northern California vs Southern California single-school championship game. We will be using that game to help judge relative strengths. Right now it seems like SoCal is a little stronger, as much because they have been able to play more than their Northern counterparts (there are teams in the middle too; we're checking on them).

We've got more games coming up. There's a preseason jamboree in Texas, Tempe is hosting San Clemente out of SoCal (!), and North Carolina has dug out of the ice.
