Well over 200 teams are in action this weekend with some playoffs and championships and some notable cross-border high-ranked matchups.
Already we have a couple of results, notably the relatively quiet Royal Irish putting in a solid performance against HSE/Fishers, winning 27-5. Glen Ellyn and BC High also have recorded wins.
Northern California started their playoffs. The Premier Division has its cup semifinals, with the #1-ranked HS Club and the #2-ranked School team in action, although not against each other.
Florida crowns a champion with Cardinal Gibbons vs Boca Raton in the conference final.
In Southern California, Belmont Shore can cap an impressive run of victories by beating Thunder. Three SoCal teams went to the Boys HS Nationals in 2021, with San Diego winning Tier II, SOC Raptors taking 6th, and Thunder winning the HS Club bracket. Shore has already beaten the Raptors and the Mustangs.
The #1-ranked school team, St. Ignatius, plays the #7-ranked HS Club Aspetuck. This is a stern test for both sides.
Gonzaga, meanwhile, is in the middle of an intense series of games and will take on Xavier HS on Sunday. For their part, Xavier has pursued a pretty tough schedule. We discussed this in our school-team rankings article but didn't mention Xavier. The New York-based team has played eight ranked opponents, with an average ranking of 23. That average ranking is dragged down by three opponents ranked in the 40s. They have played four teams ranked #12 or higher, and are 1-3 in those games with an average score of 23-29.
