Big 10 Latest: OSU, Badgers, Irish Show Well

Three conference games and two non-conference games have us at GRR World Headquarters looking at the Big 10.

Non-conference games include Ohio State vs Tennessee and Illinois vs McKendree

Illinois tied McKendree 26-26, which is a good showing for the Illini and give those within the game who rank teams a really good idea of where the Midwest and Big 10 stand—here you have a team that's not expected to win the Big 10, Illinois, tying a team that is not expected to win the Midwest. They tie. (Is this a hint that there should be a Greater Midwest conference with the Midwest on one side and the Big 10 on another side? Of course not.)

Ohio State beat Tennessee 42-14. This was an excellent showing from the Buckeyes, who often have difficulty when playing the Volunteers.

"it was an extremely physical game," said OSU program head Tom Rooney. "The pack was good. We didn't win exceptionally, and we didn't lose, but they gave us an attacking platform."

Wing Jayden Garner scored two-well-taken tries while hooker Max Clark added one off the back of the maul. Loose forwards Tom Barry and Dan Carroll both impressed and both scored as Ohio State took a 28-14 lead into halftime.

The unsung hero was probably tighthead prop Walter Tidenberg, who was, said Rooney, "huge in the trenches."

Indiana continued to blow through their opposition and won 50-0 over Purdue. Wisconsin, meanwhile, had their toughest game of the season so far. Against Michigan the Badgers moved to 3-0 overall with a 26-12 win.

On Sunday, Notre Dame was impressive in a 50-0 shutout to move the Irish to 2-0 in the Big 10.
