Berks Caps Off Excellent Summer with Win
After a strong showing in the NAI 7s, Berks County Rugby finished off their summer with a win at the Cocorico 7s in Maryland.
Hosted by the Bethesda Roosters, the tournament offered one more challenge for teams this summer.
Berks swept pool play, beating Loudon Rugby, Southern Pines and Vipers.
In Pool A, Minutemen, who have developed a nice rivalry with Berks this summer, won out and that led to the final.
In that final Berks started fast and never took their foot off the pedal, winning 54-19.
Who's the Best HS 7s team of the Summer? Here's One Argument
“It was great to see this team, consisting of 7 underclassman, play so well together.” said Berks Coach Greg Stelluti (who was unable to attend the tournament). “Coaches Paul Shingleton and Henrique Ribiero did an outstanding job keeping the team focused on the goal and this was a great look into what our Fall 7s team will look like in defense of our state championship.”
Cocorico concluded a very successful sevens season for Berks. They finished local tournaments with five Cup championships by their Berks I team, going 22-0. Berks II lost only three games over the summer, with one of them to Berks I, and took one Cup championship and two Plate championships.
Berks I also took 2nd place at Tropical 7s and 3rd at NAI 7s.
