Belmont HS swept the Massachusetts state championships in D1 with wins for both the boys and girls teams this past weekend.
Belmont HS boys beat Lincoln-Sudbury 31-10 in the semifinals, while St. John’s Prep beat Boston College HS in an almost identical score, 31-14.
That led to the final at Curry College, and there, led by flyhalf John Campbell, Belmont HS edged St. John's 31-26. Campbell's goalkicking was crucial, as he was a perfect 4-for-4 on his conversions and he added a penalty goal and a try for a personal haul of 16.
Belmont HS girls defeated Lincoln-Sudbury in a dramatic final 27-26 to win the girls championship.
In the Boys D2, Milton HS beat Cambridge, Rindge and Latin HS 41-12 to take the state title.
