Boston College High School logged their third straight Massachusetts IAA D1 championship last week with a 48-17 defeat if Milton HS.

Inside center Marcus Pinto and No. 8 Michael Conley each scored two tries, both scoring in the first eight minutes the match. Milton would score on a nicely-executed set piece move and added a penalty goal to keep it a one-score game early in the first half.

But after that, BC High put on a four-try run to take a commanding 34-10 lead at halftime.

The elements played a factor, as high heat and humidity saw a slippery ball and player fatigue set in. BC High would punch in two more converted tries in the second half, and Milton picked up a final try for their efforts.

"We had a great group of kids who took their rugby seriously and loved playing together," said Head Coach Paul Carty. "After our 2025 team saw a ton of production graduate, we didn't know quite what to expect.  But this group of kids picked up the mantle and worked hard starting in September."

As often happens when a team is forced to replace some high-achieving players, all of the returning players raised their level, and as an overall team, they were perhaps more balanced in 2026. Nineteen players scored tries, with 15 scoring more than one.

They played superb team defense and routinely shut down opponents. They also learned.

"Losses against Xavier and Greenwich really helped us identify areas of need, so that when we returned to conference play, we were ready," said Carty.

In MIAA D2, Hanover beat Brookline 26-17 to take the title. Brookline came into the playoffs 3-3 but beat the #1 seed, Algonquin, in the semis.
