Colorado started well in Rocky Mountain Conference play with a 33-5 win over Wyoming.
The Buffaloes started the game with two tries in the first 10 minutes and followed that up with a score from center Adam Otto to lead 19-0. Pearce Alger's try made it 26-o with Marc Oriol's third conversion, and then the second half was a defensive battle until the final minutes, whe Wyoming's Lane Hamaker finally got some points for the Cowboys.
Quinn Laffan responded with a try for the Buffs to ice it.
Ohio State shut out Michigan State 49-0 in impressive fashion.
Prop Joe Tipka, wing Jack Dulik, flyhlf Oliver Weidner, flanker Owen Schultz, and scrumhalf Mark French all scored tries to establish a 35-0 halftime lead.
That list is a who's who of top high school talent out of Ohio. Tipka and Schultz were standouts at St. Edward; Weidner was a top play from St. Xavier in Cincinnati, and both Dulik and French were key players for St. Ignatius.
In the second half the Buckeyes ran on some finishers, with two more St. Ignatius products, fullback Tommy Kilbane and No. 8 Charlie Banaszak scoring tries. Kilbane converted all seven.
Also in the Big 10 Indiana won 43-12 over Purdue.
Midwest Conference team McKendree won big over Illinois 89-5. Freddie Rawlings and Jacob Partington each scored three tries and Rawlings added four conversions for 23 points on his own. Partington added two conversions of his own and Conor Tierney added six.
This was a good starting performance for McKendree which now looks ahead to the Midwest Conference season, which begins in October.
