WEST POINT, NY — Army West Point women shut out Quinnipiac 39-0 on Friday night to improve to 1-1-1 in NIRA DI.

Codi Butt had a big night, scoring two tries, three conversions, and a penalty goal for a total of 19 points. Army controlled the game from the outset, and along with Butt, Hope Moseley, Emma Gamboa, Kaitlyn Schwarting, and McKayle O'Boyle all scored tries.

It was a tight game for much of the first half before Butt's penalty kick broke the deadlock. The Cadets kept up the pressure and got their first try just before halftime.

The second half was all Army.

"First off, huge shout-out to the Army fans who filled the stands and the parachute team with their awesome halftime performance," said West Point Head Coach Bill LeClerc. "Truly a game-changer when you have a crowd like that for a Friday night game under the lights against a physical Quinnipiac team.

"It was a back-and-forth match the first half as we didn't come out of the gate playing our game and Quinnipiac came ready to fight."

LeClerc said Butt's penalty seemed to give his side momentum, and after that "we were able to capitalize, gain momentum, and score at very critical times. Our impact subs stepped up in a big way and truly showed the depth of this relatively young team. Whereas there are always improves after every game, there were so many skillful and elite phases of rugby to be proud of as a whole. Looking forward to getting to work this week to prepare for our next match."

Two more NIRA DI games remain this weekend with Harvard at Sacred Heart and Mount St. Mary's at Long Island. But here are the standings now:
