With the break around Easter last week it was sort of a slow weekend aside from some tours and the Tropical 7s, but this week we're seeing the games come back with more ... well, just more.
First off we take a look at some of the games that went on later this week.
Greenwich beat Ridgefield 64-10 with a strong defensive effort. Greenwich's counter-attack ability is always a feature of their game and they did well there. Lock Brian Duffy scored three tries while captain and flyhalf Ignacio Piccione led the attack plan nicely.
Across the continent in Washington state, the Eastside Lions continued their strong form, beating Liberty 47-12.
This was a curtain-raiser for Friday night's Seattle Seawolves MLR game and was played at Starfire Stadium, where the Seawolves play. It was an exciting atmosphere for the players.
"We have some work-ons for sure," said Eastside Coach Jeff Bonnett. "But we were for sure happy to secure the win."
Layton Christian pulled off a massive result with a 28-0 shutout of Herriman Friday night. LCA did very well to help stymie Herriman's scoring chances, and boy did Layton take their opportunities. This was an excellent showing by LCA.
Both St. Thomas Aquinas and the KC Jr. Blues are hosting Valor from Colorado.
The Junior Blues are coming off a nice win over the St. Louis Jets in which they were missing some players due to the Tropical 7s. Keller Taylor and Gage Nelson were very good, stepping into more starting roles. Keller is a fullback/scrumhalf who was asked to play center and he scored 20 points (two tries, five conversions). Nelson, who is new to rugby, players prop and scored two tries.
Valor was pipped by Aquinas 13-12. In Indiana Pendleton beat Westside 54-0, which is a pretty impressive scoreline, with Jacob Rowley scoring two. Ohio teams Perrysburg and Withrow squared off midweek with Withrow taking it 39-0, Quinteze Jones scored two tries. Three tries from Justin Marc Russell saw Shaker past Brunswick. Oelsntangy beat Warrior Boys 38-10.
