Skip Niebauer was one of the top American rugby players even before there was a national team to play for.

A central part of an excellent UCLA team in the early 1970s he was also part of the all University of California system team that toured Australia and New Zealand.

A strong tackler at flanker, Neibauer could also run the ball well and score tries, and he did so for the Bruins, the BATS, and London Scottish.

Capped nine times by the USA, Neibauer was the starting blindside flanker for the Eagles in their first test match of the modern era, and later captained the squad four times.
