All-Time American List: Victoria Folayan
All-Time American List: Victoria Folayan
Victoria Folayan emerged onto the American rugby scene as a 20-year-old at Stanford, where she was a huge part of the Crimson's two national championships.
A powerful wing with a nifty sidestep and the ability to run around, or through, tacklers, "Vix" Folayan blossomed with the USA 7s team, helping the USA to a bronze medal in the 2013 Rugby World Cup 7s, and also helping the Eagles make the 2016 Olympic Games.
She was the consummate finisher for that team, setting a record for the USA women's team in the Sevens World Series with 64 tries. And while that total has been surpassed, when she set the record no one was even anywhere close. Her strike rate of 64 tries in 76 matches (!) is astounding, and while four players (Lauren Doyle, Kris Thomas, Naya Tapper, and Alev Kelter) have since eclipsed her try total, her try-per-game average of .84 is more than 50% better then three of them, with only Tapper (.74) even in the same zip code.
A brilliant rugby player and very intelligent person on and off the field, Folayan was a champion when the USA team needed one, and she remains an all-time great.
