All-Time American List: Jone Naqica
All-Time American List: Jone Naqica
Jone Naqica retired from playing international rugby as the highest-scoring USA player in international 7s.
While that record of 411 points scored has since been broken, it’s still evidence that Naqica was a hugely important player for the USA as its 7s program developed.
His reputation as a leader and a veteran talent on several championship teams kind of obscures the fact that Naqica was a youthful sensation when he started out.
Naqica was only 21 when he was capped by the Eagles 15s team. He made his debut in San Francisco in 2001, scoring two tries against Clive Woodward’s team. He was capped eight times for the 15s team before concentrating on 7s. He played 97 games for the USA 7s team in World Series events,
A popular player with a superb sidestep, excellent pass, and a snappy understanding of the game, Naqica helped the Denver Barbarians and SFGG to national championship contention, especially in 7s.
Now a coach and highly respected as such, Naqica is one of American rugby’s best all-time 7s players.
