All Blacks Slam USA
All Blacks Slam USA
New Zealand put on a clinic in defeating the USA 74-6 before a sold out Soldier Field in Chicago.
The Eagles played a lot of rugby, having the ball for long periods and causing the All Blacks defense to work hard. But they couldn't produce any major breaks, and some of their most promising scoring opportunities were stymied by mistakes, a couple of rough calls from ref Craig Joubert, and excellent New Zealand cover defense.
The All Blacks repeatedly punished the USA for silly play, such as quick lineouts when they were outnumbers, or kicking directly to fullback Israel Dagg.
Sub wing Julian Savea scored three tries, while the USA points came from the boot of Adam Siddall. The USA played hard for 80 minutes, with Blaine Scully excellent on the wing despite being outnumbered frequently, and flanker Scott LaValla the best forward, especially on defense.
The score flattered New Zealand a shade, but not a great deal.
