Men DII College Rankings 2014-15 #5
It's been two weeks since we unleashed our last Men's DII Rankings, so there's much to cover in this edition.
The major news, of course, was #2 Salisbury falling to #5 Towson. The result has to move Towson up, and Salisbury down, but Towson doesn't go to #2 simply because this is just the excuse we need to move the dominant UW-Whitewater up. Beating your closest rivals, and #20 UW-Stout, 53-5 is a pretty good reason to get bumped up to #2. James Madison stays at #3 having beaten #27 VMI, but they could have been there, too.
After that there's a group of teams that are strong in their conference that we think are close to each other. One of them, possibly Notre Dame College, could break out, but watch out for St. Louis and Cortland, too. SLU, we know, lost to Colorado College, but we ranked SLU higher thanks to their huge victory over Principia and the fact that CC has not had the same sort of schedule. So we'll excuse SLU a four-point loss on the road at altitude in a non-conference game.
Other teams may have dropped down despite winning a game - that's usually because another team or two made a big move. Grand Valley State moves up because the game we had as a loss to Saginaw Valley State was mis-reported by the referee society (a very rare occurance) and now that we've corrected that as a GVSU win, things change.
SUNY Oswego and SUNY Oneonta are big movers up. Eckerd out of Florida is playing a cross-divisional Florida Cup, but has done enough to get in.
