Boston College opened up the ACRC Bowl Series with a 29-19 defeat of Iona Friday night at the Rugby Athletic Center in Charlotte, NC.

BC opened the scoring with a try from prop Patrick Rockwell, but Iona came back to take the lead at 7-5. BC re-took the lead with a try from Brian Reilly but lock John Cullen nudged Iona back into the lead at 12-10.

Danny Schatzman scored a try to put BC up 15-12 at halftime, and then in the second half a mistake deep in the Iona 22 led to a try for BC wing Colm Mulvaney. That was the key play. Iona came back. The forwards piled prop Pat Morris over. The referee had to think about it, but he got it down and with Brian Moyo’s kick it was 22-19 BC.

But BC put it away. After Iona let a pass hit the deck it was kicked ahead and that led to a scrum-five for Boston College. The Eagles pressured and finally sent fullback Joey D’Antonio over to finish it off 29-19.

This was a solid end to a solid season for Boston College, which was 2nd in the ECRC and an ACRC Bowl win.
