Army Clinches Rugby East
WHEELING, WV - The West Point men's team clinched the Rugby East conference title with a 34-29 defeat of Wheeling Jesuit Saturday.
Wheeling Jesuit scored first but after that it was mostly Army for the next 60 minutes or so. Tries from Cody Brown, David Huff, and Collum Magee put Army up 17-10 at halftime. And in the second half the Black Knights kept up the pressure. Tries from Andrew Fargo and Andrew Borer, with Borer converting his own score, made it a commanding 29-10 lead. Andy Sullivan then touched down to make it 34-10.
But Wheeling Jesuit finished strong as Army perhaps cruised into the final 20 minutes. The Cardinals scored three tries in the final quarter to get within a try at 34-29.
But Army held on. With the victory Army is 8-0 and wins the Rugby East. They are slated to play Life University for the de-facto Fall DI Championship on the ACRC Bowl Weekend November 22 in Charlotte, NC.
