Men DII College Rankings 2014-2015 #1

Goff Rugby Report unveils the preseason Men's DII College rankings.

The rankings are based heavily on previous results, as the current form of the teams is yeat to be confirmed.

Due to the ongoing changes in the game, it's difficutl to put many western teams on this list ... yet. But it's likely a few from the Pacific and Mountain time zones will play their way in over the fall.

Men DI College Rankings 2014-2015 #1

Goff Rugby Report opens up the 2014-2015 Men's college season with our pre-season DI Men's College ranking.

In this ranking, which we will look to post every week, we may well expand the list, which currently numbers 30, depending on how teams perform.

Ideally, we'd like to rank as many as 100 teams, but for the pre-season, we'll start with 30.

Some notes: BYU and St. Mary's were the top two teams of last season, and they are the top two this season. It's highly debatable who would win a rubber match between these two, but BYU gets the nod based in part on history - St. Mary's a great every year, but BYU is a national champion contender every year. Life gets the nod over Cal for 3rd based on the Running Eagles' closer score v. St. Mary's last season, and based on the fact that Cal's best player, Seamus Kelly, has graduated.

Women DI College Top 20 - August 25, 2014

Two more weeks of practices, and the fall season will be underway. So here's a pre-season look at the Women's DI College Top 20, our first ranking of the year:

The last few years have seen Penn State put irrefutable distance between itself and the rest of the field, and one look at the 2014-15 roster suggests more of the same this year. Seniors Meya Bizer and Hope Rogers return for (likely) one more year with the Nittany Lions, and they’ll inject some Women’s Rugby World Cup experience into the team. Youngsters like Gabby Cantorna, Katie Mueller and Kyla Chipman are fresh off the Junior All American tour to Canada (the latter was captain), and junior Olympian Tess Feury is heading to State College, Pa.

Girls High School 2014-15 Pre-Season Top 20

The summer’s over, as far as some high school rugby players are concerned. This week, some of the top teams in the nation will return to the practice field in preparation for the fall 15s league season, so it’s time for a pre-season Girls High School Top 20 ranking.

Wisconsin and Colorado will state champions by fall's end, and the powerhouses in each region are well established. In Wisconsin, it’s all about Divine Savior Holy Angels (DSHA) and Catholic Memorial. Perennial Midwest champion DSHA will miss graduates like the comprehensive Beth Pokorny, Tierra Henry and speedsters like Catherine Trowbridge, but coach John Klein is fortunate to have about 20 returning seniors booting up this season, and many were present during the Dashers’ third-place run at nationals. The back line looks especially dangerous, with Cat MacPherson running the show at flyhalf.

Boys Single-School Rankings for 13-14 Season

Finally, finally, finally GoffRugbyReport gives you our end-of-season Boys Single-School rankings.

It was very, very tough to do this, especially on the lower end of the spectrum, where there are some other programs that deserve to get in, but eventually we capped the list at 35.

Gonzaga is #1, no surprise there. Jesuit #2, no surprise. The teams of note, really are Snow Canyon, who beat pretty much everyone they played and won a very, very competitive Utah league, and Notre Dame de La Salette, which won and lost a few really close games, but basically proved they belong in the conversation of the top teams.

East HS in Utah was a bit of a surprise, and De la Salle out of Northern California didn't play on a national level, but were good enough to be there.

GRR Boys HS Club Rankings

Goff Rugby Report unleashes its first Boys HS Club rankings of 2013-2014 season.

Unfortunately, because of the timing of the season and our launch, it's also the last rankings of the season. Ah well, we temper your disappointment by making th rankings big - 45 teams!

There are, we think, the best 45 multi-school boys teams in the country. For the most part we've gone with ranking the teams based on their performance in major national and regional playoffs - so if Team A beat Team B in March, but lost to Team B in the state semis, then Team B is ranked higher - but we have to extend our evaluations past that simply because many teams don't actually participate in regional or national championships.
