International rugby returns to US soil after the drama of the Olympics.
And while it’s a bit of a leap between the USA women’s 7s team winning Bronze in Paris and the men’s 15s playing in Southern California, there’s also a connection. Chiefly the connection is Dignity Health Sports Park, which will host USA men vs Canada in a week, and that will also be the venue for the LA Olympic rugby in 2028.
In a way, then, this upcoming Eagles test match is a way to celebrate the national teams of all types. Consider this from this summer:
USA U18 Girls 3-1 on tour to Wales again national teams, with their lone loss a very unlucky 17-14 result won by the hosts.
USA U18 Boys toured South America, playing competitively, but losing, to Uruguay, Chile, and a Buenos Aires Academy XV
USA U20 Men made the final of the Junior World Trophy before bowing out to Scotland. They beat Uruguay, Kenya, and Netherlands to make the final.
USA U20 Women enjoyed an impressive showing in the Trans-Atlantic Quad Series in Wales, beating England, losing 23-10 to Canada, and losing to Wales 38-31.
USA Men 7s took 8th in the Olympic Games
USA Women 7s won the Bronze Medal in the Olympic Games
USA Women beat Australia 32-25 in Melbourne to secure qualification for the next Rugby World Cup and for the upcoming WXV 1 and then a younger lineup won a series against Japan with one win and one tie.
USA Men re-assembled and lost a close one to Romania before dropping a competitive game against Scotland in front of over 17,000 in Washington DC.
